Millions Of Subscribers Have Bailed On PlayStation

Apparently, Sony's relaunch of its PlayStation Plus subscription service hasn't gone as well as the company had hoped. Since the overhauled site debuted in June, it's lost nearly 2 million subscribers, the company's latest financial statement reveals.

  • The service, which was expected to attract more members following the reboot, instead saw its number of subscribers drop from 47.3 million to 45.4 million between July and September, according to the financial report. Commenting on the loss, Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki says there “hasn’t been great momentum.”
  • Meanwhile, Microsoft is reporting its subscription service, Game Pass, has seen a 7-million bump in subscribers in the past year, going from 18 million to 25 million.
