Brush Fire Blackens 17 Acres on Catalina Island

AVALON(CNS) - A brush fire scorched about 17 acres near a campground on Catalina Island today, though no one was injured.

The fire was reported just before 1:50 p.m. in the area of 215 N. Sumner Ave. near the Black Jack Campground, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The fire quickly grew to 10, then 15 acres as firefighting aircraft were called in to assist ground teams with dousing the blaze.

The fire department announced just after 3:50 p.m. that forward progress of the brusher had been stopped at about 17 acres. No injuries were reported, and no structures were threatened.
