The United States Postal Service, in a statement Monday, said it has "ample capacity" to handle any added volume of mail-in ballots for the presidential election. The USPS also stated, definitively, that it can handle any additional mail "that may result as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic."
"Postal workers have been serving the 'vote by mail' needs of US citizens for generations including for overseas military personnel and their families. We proudly do so as a civic duty regardless of who voters are casting their ballots for," it said.
"This assault on the US Constitution, our democratic rights and the ongoing attempt to discredit 'vote-by-mail' and demonize postal workers is wrong and heads us down a dangerous path toward dictatorship," the APWU continued.
The statement comes after RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel tweeted a pic of Trump supporters who she said were "protesting Nevada Democrats' attempt to ram through mass mail-in voting and ballot-harvesting."
President Trump retweeted McDaniel's pic, writing Monday that Nevada was "using COVID to steal the state", adding "See you in court."
Several election security experts have said that President Trump's statements on mail-in ballot fraud are "unsubstantiated."
