Critics Choice Awards Go Vegan, Echoing Golden Globes

SANTA MONICA (CNS) - Following the lead of the Golden Globe Awards, the Critics Choice Association announced today it will serve only plant-based food during this weekend's Critics Choice Awards ceremony.

Organizers said attendees at Sunday night's event at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica will be able to choose from Baja Fresh vegetarian tacos and burritos, or plant-based burgers from The Counter. Vegan desserts from Pinkberry and Cold Stone Creamery will also be offered.

``When planning this year's awards show, we wanted to be mindful of the impact that our event has on the environment,'' Joey Berlin, CEO of the CCA, said in a statement. ``Baja Fresh and The Counter were able to step up in a big way to support our decision thanks to their diverse menus of tasty food options. Together we are looking forward to providing our incredible honorees, nominees and guests with delicious and thoughtful food during the show.''

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association served only vegan food at last weekend's Golden Globe Awards. The decision earned the group an on-stage shout-out from best-actor winner Joaquin Phoenix when he accepted his award for his work in ``Joker.''
