LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose today for the fifth consecutive day after dropping 51 times in the previous 58 days to its lowest amount since April 2.
The average price rose 1.9 cents Tuesday to $3.79, partially reflecting a tax increase of 5.6 cents per gallon for road and mass transit programs that went into effect Monday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. A 12 cents per gallon tax increase in 2017 took several days to be reflected in the average gas price.
The average price has increased 6.3 cents over the past five days, including two-tenths of a cent on Monday. It is 6.6 cents more than one week ago and 11.7 cents higher than one year ago but 14.5 cents less than one month ago.
The Orange County average price rose for the eighth consecutive day after dropping 46 of the previous 48 days to its lowest amount since April 2, increasing 2.2 cents to $3.747. It has risen 7.5 cents over the past eight days, including one-tenth of a cent on Monday.
The Orange County average price is 7.2 cents more than one week ago and 12.8 cents higher than one year ago but 15.7 cents less than one month ago.
