Map of Free Tax Prep Services Released by L.A. City Controller

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A map of free tax preparation service locations in the greater Los Angeles area was released today by City Controller Ron Galperin to help taxpayers meet the April 15 filing deadline.

The locations include community based organizations, public libraries, schools and churches.

``As the taxpayers' watchdog, it's my job to look after the financial well-being of the city and its residents,'' Galperin said. ``While my office works to make the city more efficient and effective, we also seek to provide Angelenos with useful tools and information that can enhance their lives.''

The tax prep map is available to the public, but is specifically aimed at those who may qualify for the state and federal Earned Income Tax Credit. According to the California Department of Community Services and Development, nearly $2 billion in EITC funds go unclaimed each year and households who earn $55,000 or less may be eligible to receive up to $9,000 in cash back through the EITC benefit, Galperin's office said.
