President Trump Offers Temporary Protection To DACA

On Saturday afternoon, President Trump addressed the nation about the partial government shutdown and offered the Democrats a deal that Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, rejected before she even heard it, according to the New York Times.

Mr. Trump's deal included temporary protection for "Dreamers", young undocumented immigrants brought here by their illegal parents, in exchange for the $5.7 billion needed for the border wall across the United States-Mexico border.

This proposal was the President's first public offer to the Democrats since the partial government shutdown began almost a month ago. It came after a week of back and forth between Mr. Trump and Ms. Pelosi. The Speaker of the House tried telling the President he should not deliver his State of the Union address until the shutdown was lifted. The President responded by not allowing Ms. Pelosi to take a trip to Afghanistan.

Of course to be difficult though, the Democrats are refusing to negotiate with the President until the government is open. Mr. Trump's offer to the Democrats was his way of offering a compromise to make both sides please. His goal is to end this shutdown as quickly as possible with the proper border wall funding.

“That is our plan. Border security, DACA, T.P.S. Many other things. Straightforward, fair, reasonable and common sense with lots of compromise" the President said in his address
