Considering the number of birds that populate the area surrounding the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, stopping pigeons from disrupting Wimbledon is no small task...

But Rufus has it handled!

Rufus is a hawk that circles the sky over the event every day from 5 a.m. until 9 a.m., scaring pigeons and other birds away.

“There were loads of pigeons when we started and we sorted that problem out,” says Rufus' owner, 59-year-old Wayne Davis. "It’s more of a preventative thing now.”

But at 15 years old, Rufus is getting a little old to continue flying laps and will likely be replaced next year, Davis says. A new hawk, 3-year-old Horace, is already prepped and ready to take over.
