LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The Los Angeles Zoo joined the city's anti-hate PSA campaign ``LA For All,'' displaying the multicolored banners with hate crime reporting information throughout its entrance, dining and retail areas, the Los Angeles Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department announced today.
``Our front gates are open to every single Angeleno, connecting them with nature and the vital role we all play in the conservation of species,'' LA Zoo Director and CEO Denise Verret said. ``The LA Zoo is committed to increasing our accessibility and inclusivity to foster a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.''
The zoo is LA Civil Rights' largest partner for the campaign, which launched in 2021 and has run more than 4,200 ads in 18 languages across the L.A. area. The campaign encourages people who see or experience a hate crime or hate incident to report it to the Los Angeles Police Department or to an LA County Crisis Care Coordinator by calling 2-1-1 or 3-1-1 for hate incidents. Crimes in progress should be reported to 9-1-1.
``We are so glad to welcome the LA Zoo to the LA For All campaign, and especially grateful to Zoo Director Denise Verret for creating an inclusive, safe and world-class environment for people and animals alike,'' LA Civil Rights Executive Director Capri Maddox said. ``The LA Zoo sees nearly two million annual visitors from all ages, languages and backgrounds -- they all should know that LA is for Everyone.''
Along with the zoo, the campaign has partnered with the Los Angeles Unified School District, Metro and dozens of other public and private sector organizations, according to LA Civil Rights.
