In the suit, which was filed Thursday, Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt allege Laundrie told his parents what he'd done "on or about" August 28th -- one day after he's believed to have killed the 22-year-old. They also reveal that Roberta Laundrie blocked Schmidt's phone number and unfriended her on Facebook when her daughter was reported missing.

"While Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt were desperately searching for information concerning their daughter, Christopher Laundrie and Roberta Laundrie were keeping the whereabouts of Brian Laundrie secret," the suit reads, "and it is believed were making arrangements for him to leave the country."

FBI officials say Laundrie, who took his own life, admitted to killing Petito in a journal they found near his body.

Petito and Schmidt are asking for a minimum of $100,000 in damages, saying they suffered pain and mental anguish as a result of the Laundries' actions, according to the lawsuit.
