In a recent interview on Marc Maron's podcast "WTF", Sam Elliott weighed in on the movie "The Power of the Dog".

During the over one-hour interview, Maron and Elliott delved into the roles Elliott portrayed in his career. As the conversation between the two progressed, Maron asked Elliott if he liked the Oscar-nominated film "The Power of the Dog" starring Benedict Cumberbatch and directed by Jane Campion... this is where things got heated.

Elliott proceeded to rip the film.

“You want to talk about that piece of s---?”

Elliott said after Maron brought up the film.

"The Power of the Dog" is currently nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture and follows a Montana rancher, who is also a closeted gay man that is struggling with his own inner demons.

As Elliott ripped the film, he did say that Campion was a "brilliant director" and enjoyed some of her previous work, but questioned the perspective she has on this topic since she is from New Zealand.

“What ... does this woman from down there ... New Zealand, know about the American West?”

Elliott continued by saying:

“And why ... did she shoot this movie in New Zealand and call it Montana and say, ‘This is the way it was?’ That rubbed me the wrong way, pal.”

Elliott also did not agree with the depiction of American cowboys as "macho men" and also said cattle ranching is a family operation contrary to what was depicted in the film. He recently was in Texas and said:

"[in Texas] where I was hanging out with families, not men, but families, big, long, extended, multiple-generation families that made their living and their lives were all about being cowboys."

The Academy Award-nominated actor also did not like the way the cowboys were depicted comparing them to Chippendale dancers.

"They’re all running around in chaps and no shirts. There’s all these allusions to homosexuality throughout the f------ movie,”

NBC News reached out to Elliott, Campion, and Netflix for comment - none immediately responded.

Let's not forget that Elliott used to do these commercials.
