LONG BEACH (CNS) - The driver of a Dodge pickup who police said struck a juvenile and slammed into the side of an apartment building in Long Beach is still at large today.

Police were called at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday to the 6600 block of Rose Avenue, near Artesia Boulevard and Cherry Avenue, regarding a hit-and-run traffic collision, Long Beach Police Department Lt. Jose Flores told City News Service.

Television footage showed a pickup had plowed into the apartment complex on Rose Avenue and CBS 2 reported that Long Beach Fire Department firefighters removed one person from the truck and there was possibly another person -- possibly a child -- was trapped underneath it.

The juvenile was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The victim's gender and name were not immediately released.

The driver ran away from the scene, police said.

CBS 2 also reported there was a coroner's van at the scene but City News Service was unable to confirm that.
