Florida Cops Stop Gator from Crossing Road...Yes, Really

Why did the alligator cross the road? We may never know, thanks to some Florida police officers.

Officers in Collier County made the intervention when a 12-foot alligator was attempting to cross Interstate 75.

Fearing the reptile could cause an accident, officers went to the scene to block its path.

Authorities say after a brief standoff, the alligator gave up and turned around.

And while the officers were successful their initial goal of preventing traffic collisions, they caused Interstate 75 to be reportedly "backed up for miles" as they held their standoff with the gator.
