After an uptick in COVID-19 testing and positive cases across California, Governor Gavin Newsom has now deployed the National Guard to help give COVID-19 tests at select locations across the state.

200 troops would be deployed across 50 different testing locations in California, according to Newsom's office. The Governor also mentioned that having the National Guard deployed to COVID-19 testing sites will help increase the capacity for walk-in appointments as well as assist with crowd control.

In a statement, Newsom discussed COVID-19's impact in California:

“California has led the country’s fight against COVID-19, implementing first-in-the-nation public health measures that have helped save tens of thousands of lives,”

The Governor continued by saying:

“We continue to support communities in their response to COVID by bolstering testing capacity.”
