LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Gov. Gavin Newsom is expected to give details today on a new state mandate requiring all healthcare workers in California to receive a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
Newsom announced plans for the mandate Tuesday, with a social media post reading, ``With Omicron on the rise, we're taking immediate actions to protect Californians and ensure our hospitals are prepared.''
All California healthcare workers were mandated earlier this year to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The mandate -- at the time the first of its kind in the nation -- required healthcare workers to receive their second dose of vaccine by Sept. 30.
Newsom is scheduled to visit a COVID testing site in Alameda County this morning to provide details of the booster shot mandate for healthcare workers. According to his office, Newsom will also ``discuss new state actions to protect Californians amid increasing COVID-19 case rates and hospitalizations.''
