OC-Bound Flight Diverted To Denver After Flight Attendant Assaulted

SANTA ANA (CNS) - A flight bound to John Wayne Airport was diverted to Denver tonight after a passenger assaulted a flight attendant.

The incident occurred about halfway through Flight 976 from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York when it was over Ohio, passenger Mackenzie Rose told CBSLA.

Several witnesses said the assault occurred over a dispute about wearing a mask, according to CBSLA.

The passenger was taken into custody when the plane landed.

“We are outraged by the reports of what took place on board,” American Airlines said in a statement. “Acts of violence against our team members are not tolerated by American Airlines.

“We are working with law enforcement to support our team member and pursue prosecution, and the individual involved in this incident will not be allowed to travel with us in the future.”
