Unemployment Rate Dips Slightly In LA County In July

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles County's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 10.1% in August, down from a revised 10.4% in July, according to figures released today by the state Employment Development Department.

The 10.1% rate was below the 17.2% rate in August 2020, in the midst of COVID-19 shut-down orders.

In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the August jobless rate was 6%, down slightly from 6.4% in July.

Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 7.5% in August, down slightly from 7.6% in July and below the August 2020 rate of 12.3%. The comparable estimates for the nation were 5.2% in August, 5.4% in July and 8.4% in August 2020.

According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment in Los Angeles County increased by 55,500 jobs between July and August to reach about 4.25 million. The government sector added the most jobs, 37,100, most notably in educational services thanks to the beginning of the school year.
