Message in a Bottle Makes 2,400-Mile Trip Across the Atlantic

A message in a bottle (that was dropped into the ocean back in 2018) has turned up in Portugal, after making a 2,400-mile trip across the Atlantic Ocean!

The message, which was placed inside a plastic Gatorade bottle, was launched by a 13-year-old in Providence, Rhode Island. It reads, "It is Thanksgiving. I am 13 and visiting family in Rhode Island. I am from Vermont.” It also included an email address to contact the sender.

The bottle was discovered by 17-year-old Christian Santos while he was spearfishing in the Azores, his mother Molly Santos says.

And although the teen sent an email to the address in the note, he says he hasn't received a response just yet... So the Santos family posted a notice on Facebook, hoping to eventually track down the mysterious 13-year-old sender!

“I would like to tell him I found it, and where it was, what I was doing,” Christian Santos told WCVB News. “And we’re going to be friends for life.”
