Residents of California may be asked to reduce electricity use this week to avert rolling blackouts amid heat wave that threatens to strain the states power grid according to KTLA.

The California Independent System Operator said that it should have enough electricity to meet demand and avert outages. If the grid operator calls a Flex Alert on Wednesday or Thursday, residents would be asked to set thermostats to 78 degrees, or higher, avoid using major appliances and turn off unnecessary lights.
