A little over a year ago, our world shut down due to the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic. There were more questions than answers on the topic of Covid-19. As time passes and the world slowly begins to reopen, a new study suggests that the Covid-19 pandemic may have begun because of a leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology. President Biden is urging an investigation into these findings.
The Wuhan Institute of Virology is known to intentionally supercharge viruses to increase their lethality. This process is known as "gain-of-function" research and is not uncommon. Gain-of-function research is done to alter certain gene functions to better understand the complexities of the mutation as well as to discover how the new mutation adapts. Over the past year, the Chinese Communist Party has been hesitant in releasing any information relating to this topic. Based on reports from United States Intelligence, the Wuhan Institute of Virology indeed collaborated with the Chinese military on specific projects. This is raising many concerns about the start of this pandemic.
Was this preventable? Why are we barely finding out about this? Why have they been hiding all of this information from the public? There are so many questions that need answers.
Through "gain-of-function" research on the Coronavirus, a microbiologist can increase the lethality of a coronavirus by splicing a special sequence into the genome of the virus. This also alters the spike protein of the virus making it easier for the virus to inject genetic materials into the victim's cells.
There have been at least 11 similar experiments to the Coronavirus research and all of those have resulted in supercharged viruses.
Virologist Bruno Coutard and a few colleagues published their discoveries into their study of CoV-2 and its supercharger site. In their findings, they found the proteins that held the CoV-2 virus together "may provide a gain-of-function" making the virus "efficient for spreading" to humans.
With the use of gain-of-function research, mice are often genetically modified by researchers to carry the same coronavirus receptors as humans. These mice are called, "humanized mice" and through this research are constantly exposed to the virus to encourage further adaptions.
Scientific evidence suggests that the notorious Coronavirus was indeed developed in a laboratory and was spread due to a potential leak at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
