More gates into LA have swung open at LAX.
City Councilman Mike Bonin says the grand opening of the West Gates expansion at LAX is providentially timed.
"This is the reopening of Los Angeles. This is the reopening of LAX and this is sort of a preview of the future of Los Angeles."
The West Gates expansion is linked to the Tom Bradley international terminal by a thousand-foot tunnel and it features a high tech boarding and baggage handling system.
"It's going to be one of the most cutting edge things in airports gonna be one of those wow factors."
The $1.7 billion project is the first to come online as part of a $15 billion modernization program.
