Pedestrian Struck by Four Vehicles, Killed, in South LA Hit-and-Runs

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A pedestrian walking in a Vermont Knolls-area crosswalk was killed after being struck by a speeding vehicle whose driver failed to stop -- and then struck by three more vehicles whose drivers also did not stop, authorities said today.

The multiple hit-and-runs occurred about 8:30 p.m. Sunday at 83rd Place and Normandie Avenue, according to South Traffic Division Det. Daniel Ramirez.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Ramirez said. The victim was described to the coroner's office as a John Doe, indicating the victim was male.

The pedestrian was crossing westbound on Normandie Avenue when a speeding southbound vehicle struck him and accelerated away, Ramirez said.

Then three more southbound vehicles also struck the pedestrian without stopping, he said.

Anyone with information was asked to call Ramirez at 323-421-2500, 877-LAPD-24-7 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
