POMONA (CNS) - A 29-year-old woman was in custody this morning after a police dog sniffed out about five pounds of heroin and more than 2,000 Oxycodone pills in the woman's vehicle following a traffic stop in Pomona.
A Pomona Police Department officer and his K9 Tibo were patrolling in the area of Towne Avenue and Mission Boulevard about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday when the officer spotted a vehicle with obvious equipment violations and pulled the vehicle over, according to Sgt. Jon Edson.
Tibo alerted his partner that there were possible narcotics in the vehicle, and a search turned up the drug stash, Edson said.
The officer took Leslie Rivera of Compton into custody, Edson said.
“ K9 Tibo's keen sense of smell prevented these drugs from hitting the streets of Pomona and the surrounding areas,'' Edson said. “Tibo is commended for his dedication to ... Pomona and his ability to sniff out (and) locate dangerous and illegal narcotics.''
