Houston's 'Mattress Mack' Opens His Furniture Stores As A Shelter

Houston businessman and local icon Jim 'Mattress Mack' McIngvale is doing his part to help Texans still dealing with a historic winter storm.

  • McIngvale has opened up his Gallery Furniture stores as a storm shelter, offering a warm place to stay for families that are still without power.
  • McIngvale says he has enough space and generator-fueled power to shelter 200 to 300 people at each of his two store locations. He made a similar gesture during recent disasters like Hurricane Harvey and Tropical Storm Imelda.
  • 'Mattress Mack' made headlines earlier this month when he placed a $1 million Super Bowl bet on the Tampa Bay Bucs - which paid off.
  • What's the longest you've ever had to go without electricity?
