One Dead, Three Injured in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-10 in Pomona

POMONA (CNS) - A 41-year-old man was killed and three other people were injured today in a three-vehicle crash on the San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Pomona, where the motorist who triggered the crash fled the scene prior to the arrival of authorities.

The crash on the westbound freeway, at the Corona (71) Freeway, occurred a little after midnight, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A silver 2018 Honda Accord was disabled in the number four lane, and was rear-ended by a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The impact caused the Honda to strike three people who had gotten out of the car, the CHP said.

A 41-year-old man, who was a resident of South Gate, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 39-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man, who were also residents of South Gate, were rushed to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center with major injuries.

The Honda came to rest on its side near the Kellogg Drive off-ramp and the Chevrolet Malibu became disabled in the number two lane of the westbound freeway. The Malibu was then struck by a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze, the CHP said.

The driver of the Cruze, a 32-year-old man from Barstow, was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center with complaints of back pain. "The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu fled the scene prior to the CHP arrival," according to a CHP statement.

Traffic lanes on the westbound freeway were cleared at 4:06 a.m., according to the CHP.

The CHP's Baldwin Park office urged anyone who saw the crash to call them at 626-338-1164.
