Truck Crashes Down Embankment in Pomona; Driver Injured, Exit Closed

POMONA (CNS) - A big rig crashed and went down an embankment off the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Pomona this morning.

Officers responded about 4:10 a.m. to a stretch of the freeway near Kellogg Drive and found the semi at the bottom of a hill, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Video from the scene showed the truck and its trailer overturned, with the trailer ripped open and a load of unknown products strewn across a road below the freeway.

Caltrans District 7 later tweeted that the truck was loaded with produce and that crews were repairing 50 feet of damaged guardrail in addition to cleaning up debris.

One injured person was sent at about 4:45 a.m. to a trauma center, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters.

Firefighters also were supervising the cleanup of a diesel fuel spill from ruptured fuel tanks, Peters said. Some diesel got into storm drains.

The crash prompted the closure of the Kellogg Drive offramp until further notice.

Details of what caused the crash were not disclosed, although the CHP noted it was at the bottom of a hill.
