LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Kenley Jansen told reporters today that he tested positive for the coronavirus, but is healthy now.
Jansen made the revelation Sunday as the Dodgers held their 10th “Summer Camp'' workout at Dodger Stadium in preparation for the shortened 2020 season, which is scheduled to begin July 23 against the San Francisco Giants at Dodger Stadium.
The team's closer said his son, wife and daughter also tested positive and have all recovered.
“It is real,'' Jansen said of COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus. “Everyone in the world, take it serious. Wear your mask at all times, if you can. Because, trust me, it happens so fast. Once my son got it, I've seen how fast it can spread. We tried to do everything, but we all got it in the house.''
Jansen was late reporting to camp earlier this month as he recovered from the virus, but he said he feels ready to go when the season starts.
“I want to do it for the fans,'' he said. “We're all going through a tough time right now in the world together. I think this is a good thing for not only the Dodgers' fans but all baseball fans around the world to have something to watch on TV.''
