Warm Temps Increase Chances of Rattlesnake Encounters on LA Trails

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) is reminding hikers to watch their surroundings, as temperatures begin to rise because they could encounter rattlesnakes.

The snakes are usually out during dusk and dawn, but they are coming out more during warmer months.

The CDFW ecommends staying alert throughout the hike and remaining on popular trails.

They also say wearing sturdy boots and long pants can help if a hiker does come in contact with a rattlesnake.

If you get bitten, it's suggested you stay calm, try to ice it and make your way to the nearest hospital as soon as you can.

With proper medical care, the chance of dying from the bite is extremely slim.
