Woman Marries Man Who Rescued Her During Las Vegas Mass Shooting

A couple who met under some horrific circumstances has celebrated their fairytale ending by getting married.

Chantal Melanson met her now husband, Austin Monfort, at a bar the day before the Las Vegas shooting that killed 58 people and injured more than 800.

They met up at the concert and when the shooting rang out, Monfort says he felt a "sense of responsibility" to protect her.

“I felt like not only did I have to get myself out, but also her. Keeping her calm and getting her out kept me calm and didn’t allow me to panic.”

They grabbed hands and ran through the grounds into safety and they stayed together through the night until returning to their homes.

They stayed in touch and were engaged in March 2019, ultimately landing in a San Diego courthouse to officially tie the knot.
