Number of Coronavirus Cases Surpasses 30,000 in L.A. County

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Los Angeles County surpassed 30,000 today according to new numbers released by local health officials.

According to Dr. Barbara Ferrer, the county's Director of Public Health, another 883 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed, bringing the countywide total to 30,296. Another 51 deaths were also reported, bringing the death toll to 1,468. Of the people who died,

The number of cases among the county's homeless has also increased, with 223 people testing positive for COVID-19, including 135 who were sheltered. Health officials say they are investigating cases at 23 different shelters across the region.

The hospitalization rate has remained stable over the last week and a half, according to Dr. Ferrer said Friday afternoon.

The number of confirmed cases around Southern California include:

  • Los Angeles County: 30,296 cases - 1,468 deaths
  • Orange County: 3,240 cases - 71 deaths
  • Riverside County: 4,756 cases - 192 deaths
  • Ventura County: 652 cases - 19 deaths
  • San Bernardino County: 2,562 cases - 108 deaths
  • San Diego County: 4,429 cases - 165 deaths

Statewide, there are more than 60,616 cases with at least 2,464 deaths reported. According to data collected by Johns Hopkins University, there are more than 1,244,119 cases nationwide with the death toll reaching 74,844 by Friday afternoon.
