LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County increased six-tenths of a cent today to $3.609, one day after remaining unchanged.
It is four-tenths of cent less than one week ago and 13 cents lower than one month ago, but 28.1 cents more than one year ago, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service.
The Orange County average price rose 1.2 cents to $3.552, one day after increasing four-tenths of a cent. It is 1.1 cents more than one week ago, 10.7 cents lower than one month ago, and 26.5 cents more than one year ago.
Some analysts fear that an escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran in the Middle East could lead to rising prices at the pump.
Marie Montgomery, a public relations specialist with the Automobile Club of Southern California, said earlier this week that gas prices “are continuing to tick down very slightly but there has been some upward pressure on the Los Angeles wholesale gasoline market in the last couple of days, probably at least partly due to the situation in the Middle East that has driven up oil prices.
“However, industry analysts are expecting oil prices to drop back down provided there is not an escalation of the situation,” she added.
