`Ford v. Ferrari' Zooms to First Place at Box Office

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The auto-racing drama ``Ford v. Ferrari'' dominated North American theaters over the weekend, spoiling the opening of a ``Charlie's Angels'' reboot, according to final figures released today.

``Ford v. Ferrari,'' starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale, collected $31.5 million in its opening weekend, according to box office tracker Comscore.

The war story ``Midway'' fell to second place with $8.5 million.

``Charlie's Angels,'' a film reboot of the classic TV show about an all-female detective trio, opened in a disappointing third place with $8.35 million. The comedy ``Playing with Fire'' took fourth place with $8.33 million, followed by ``Last Christmas'' with $6.5 million.

Rounding out the 10 top-grossing films of the weekend were ``Doctor Sleep'' ($6 million); ``The Good Liar'' ($5.6 million); ``Joker'' ($5.3 million); ``Maleficent: Mistress of Evil'' ($4.9 million); and ``Harriet'' ($4.6 million).
