LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Former Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck is under consideration to become the interim head of the Chicago Police Department, it was reported this week.

Beck was contacted by Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot about leading the department on a temporary basis if Superintendent Eddie Johnson retires, according to WLS-TV, the ABC owned-and-operated affiliate in Chicago.

Beck, the LAPD's chief from 2009-18, could not be reached for comment.

Johnson hinted Monday he has considered retirement, but has not made any decision about when, though there was some speculation an announcement could come as soon as Thursday or Friday, WLS reported.
