Children Of Firefighters Who Died In 9/11 Graduate From FDNY Academy

The children of firefighters who died on 9/11 are following in their parents' footsteps by becoming firefighters themselves.

This week, about 300 firefighters graduated from the FDNY Academy class of 2019. 13 of those graduates are children of firefighters who died on 9/11.

They're part of a graduating class of 301 that will be assigned to firehouses across New York City.

“They are continuing their family’s legacies of service,” noted FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro.

"These legacies are no longer children dreaming of the careers their fathers loved and of serving in the world’s greatest fire department," Nigro said. "Today, they fully achieved their dreams."

That includes siblings Marc and Rebecca Asaro, who both remember their father Carl never returning from Ground Zero.

"I feel like my dad's with me every step of the way," Rebecca said.
