September 15, 1940 is when many people remember the most decisive day in the Battle of Britain. This has been come to be known as Battle of Britain Day.

So, what exactly happened 79 years ago?

According to The Sun, Germany launched the "largest military air strike against the UK". You may know this attack as the "Luftwaffe".

Germany was hoping that this attack would force the UK into a negotiating for peace.

However, the British RAF successfully fought back against the 176 enemy aircraft. Meanwhile, Britain only lost 13 pilots and 25 aircraft.
