One Dead, Three Others Hurt When Car Crashes Into Apartment Building In SLA

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A woman was killed today and three other people were injured when a 59-year-old woman's car plowed into an apartment building in South Los Angeles, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 5:05 a.m. at 8760 S. Main St., said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Nicholas Prange.

The woman's white sedan slammed into the corner of a four-story apartment building and then caught fire, Prange said.

Firefighters quickly put out the car fire and then pulled out the driver and her 55-year-old male passenger from the vehicle. Both were transported to a hospital in critical condition, Prange continued.

A 45-year-old woman who was inside one of the apartments died at the scene, Prange said. Her name was withheld pending family notification.

The other three people, including a 4-year-old child, were transported to a hospital in fair condition, Prange said.

Los Angeles police did not immediately say if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

“I came out of the building because the noise was so loud,” an unidentified resident told ABC7 News. “It's sad, so sad,” she continued. “There was blood everywhere. It was so sad.”

The crash was being investigated by LAPD's south Traffic Division.
