Suspect Fires Shots, Barricades Himself in South L.A. Home

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man fired shots and then barricaded himself inside a home in South Los Angeles for nearly two-and-a-half-hours late this afternoon before surrendering.

Gunfire was reported about 4:35 p.m. in the 1300 block of East 27th Street, near Hooper Avenue, according to Los Angeles Police Department Officer Jeff Lee.

Someone ran out of the house and called police, Lee said.

Neighboring homes were evacuated, and a SWAT team responded to the location to try and coax out the unidentified man, who was believed to be alone inside the residence.

The man surrendered to police about 7 p.m., Lee said. It's unclear what tactics SWAT officers used to get the man to come out of the house.

No injuries were immediately reported.
