Suspect Wounded In Deputy-Involved Shooting Dies At Area Hospital

EAST LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A suspect was fatally wounded during a deputy-involved shooting in East Los Angeles, the Sheriff's Department said today.

The Sheriff's Department said the shooting occurred a little before 11 p.m. Thursday in the 300 block of South Gerhart Avenue. No deputies were hurt.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop just prior to the shooting, and one of the vehicle's occupants was struck by gunfire in the upper torso, the Sheriff's Information Bureau said.

Paramedics rushed the suspect to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A firearm was recovered at the scene of the shooting. Another occupant inside the vehicle was detained, authorities said.

Witnesses told ABC7 that several gunshots were heard.
