Teen Arrested For Shooting Death in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA -- A 17-year-old girl has been arrested for the shooting death of a 15-year-old boy, officials said Thursday.

Witnesses say they heard a single gunshot at Richland Avenue and Shelton Street just after 1 a.m.

The 15-year-old, who had been shot in the upper body, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"We believe they were acquaintances," says Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

Detectives have not specified the nature of the relationship between the two teens.

A handgun found at the location has been sent in for testing.

Police arrested the 17-year-old at her home in Orange later in the morning. She's been booked for manslaughter.

Officials have not said why the booking charge was manslaughter instead of murder.
