Girl Killed, Mother Wounded in Family Attack in Garden Grove

GARDEN GROVE (CNS) - A Garden Grove man allegedly fatally stabbed his 11-year-old stepdaughter today and stabbed and shot the girl's mother, then stabbed himself multiple times before being taken into custody, police said.

The 36-year-old mother survived the attack and was listed as "stable,” according to Garden Grove police. Two boys, aged 2 and 6, were found unharmed at the home in the 8900 block of Blossom Avenue.

Officers responded to a domestic violence call at the home around 6:30 a.m., police said.

KCAL9 reported from the scene that the wounded mother was found in the front yard, and she told officers her husband was responsible for the attack and was in the backyard.

Officers went to the rear of the home and found the two boys and the 11-year-old girl, who was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The apparently suicidal man was standing on a back patio, suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds. Police fired less-than-lethal rounds at the man to subdue him, KCAL9 reported. He was also taken to a hospital to be treated for the stab wounds. His exact condition was unknown.

The victims and the suspect have not been identified.

It was not immediately known if the suspect is the father or step- father of the two boys.
