The Los Angeles Police Department is asking for the public's help to identify a boy believed to be deaf and autistic found by himself in Union Station.
The boy was turned over to the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services last night, a desk officer at the L.A.P.D.'s Central Station told CNS.
Officials say the unattended child was discovered around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.
"He's cute. He's clean. He belongs to somebody,” police Lt. Leonard Perez said. "He obviously didn't get here by himself.”
The child is deaf, but was unable to communicate with a sign language interpreter, and may be autistic, Perez said.
Officials describe the boy as black, appearing to be between 5 and 7-years-old. He stands at 3 feet 5 inches tall and weighs around 60 lbs. He has brown eyes, and long, dark braided hair. He was found wearing a blue down jacket, white tank top shirt, beige pants and gray tennis shoes.
