Teen Says LAPD Officer Gave Her Abortion Pill

A 16-year-old girl is alleging that a Los Angeles Police Department officer sexually abused her and then gave her an abortion bill while she was still in the cadet program according to a lawsuit filed on Friday. The lawsuit named former officer Robert Cain as the teenager's abuser, but does not name him as a defendant.

The lawsuit claims the city helped ignore and cover up Cain's sexual abuse, and is seeking unspecified damages.

The victim says she allegedly had an inappropriate relationship with Cain over a period of five months while she was in the L.A.P.D. cadet program. At one point during their relationship, he gave her the pill to induce an abortion when she believed she was pregnant.

The Los Angeles Police Department's cadet program came under scrutiny following a high-speed chase last June, in which three teenage cadets stole a couple of police cruisers and led officers on a chase through South L.A. The chase sparked an investigation that revealed some of the cadets may have also stolen a bulletproof vest, two stun guns and two police radios.

As part of the investigation, L.A.P.D. Chief Charlie Beck arrested former L.A.P.D. officer Robert Cain on charges he had sex with a 15-year-old cadet. A search of Cain's home also revealed a huge cache of firearms, many of which had been illegally modified. He was sentenced earlier this year on weapons charges, and has pleaded not-guilty to the other sex-related charges.
