LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Netflix has severed all ties with actor Kevin Spacey and will not be involved with any further production of ``House of Cards'' that includes the actor, a spokesperson for the internet network said.
Spacey has also been suspended from the four-year-old political drama while the production company, Media Rights Capital, reviews allegations from at least eight people who allege inappropriate behavior by the two-time Oscar winning actor.
``While we continue the ongoing investigation into the serious allegations concerning Kevin Spacey's behavior on the set of ``House of Cards,'' he has been suspended, effective immediately,'' firm officials said in an email.
``MRC, in partnership with Netflix, will continue to evaluate a path forward for the program during the hiatus.''
On Friday, a Netflix spokesperson said the company ``will continue to work with'' Media Rights Capital ``during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show.''
Netflix has ``also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film `Gore,' which was in post-production,'' the spokesperson said. Spacey was to star in the film as the late writer Gore Vidal and also was among its producers.
The allegations against Spacey, 58, began last Sunday when he was accused of making an unwanted sexual advance in 1986 toward then 14-year-old actor Anthony Rapp. Spacey was 26 at the time.
Rapp made his claim to the website Buzzfeed. Spacey responded with a statement saying he did `not remember the encounter' but added an apology ``if I did behave then as Rapp describes.''
In the statement, he also confirmed that he is gay, which earned him widespread criticism from members of the gay community arguing that being gay is no excuse for a sexual assault on a child.
Since that initial report, at least eight other people, including some who are ``House of Cards'' crew members, have described similar instances of alleged sexual misconduct by Spacey.
The production company has also acknowledged there was a complaint about Spacey in 2012, but said it was resolved to the satisfaction of all parties after the actor participated in a ``training program.''
A representative for Spacey said the actor is now ``taking the time necessary to seek evaluation and treatment.''
