Sherri Papini, a mother from Redding, was kidnapped nearly a year ago while out for a job in Shasta County. She was inexplicably freed weeks later after her captors pulled over on the side of the road and physically kicked her out of the car.
Just this week the Shasta County Sheriff's Office released new details in the investigation saying that the DNA from two people was found on Papini's body and clothes. Officials are not saying who the DNA belongs to, only that the samples do not match Papini or her husband.
Officials also announced that a male friend from Michigan who Papini had been texting and planning to meet with has said he was not involved with the incident.
Papini went for a jog on November 2, 2016 and seemed to have vanished. Her husband reported her missing after he came home from work and realized that she had failed to pick up their children from daycare. Her cellphone and headphones were found about a mile from their home.
It is not clear if Papini knew her abductors and no motive has been publicly released.
She was found early Thanksgiving morning on the side of the 5 freeway in Yolo County. She was wearing a thick chain around her waist and had sustained severe bruising and a broken nose from beatings. Her imprisoners had cut her long hair short and branded her shoulder.
