Mom Who Refused Court Order to Vaccinate Son, Heads to Jail

A Michigan woman has been sentenced to seven days in jail after defying a judge's order to have her child vaccinated.

Rebecca Bredow was charged for contempt of court, almost a year after an Oakland County judge ordered her to have her 9-year-old son vaccinated.

She had until yesterday to get him the medically allowed amount of vaccine, which would be about eight shots.

However, Bredow says doing so would violate her religious beliefs.

“I’m a passionate mother who cares deeply about my children, their health and their well-being. . . . If my child was forced to be vaccinated, I couldn’t bring myself to do it.

I can’t give in against my own religious belief. This is about choice. This is about having my choices as a mother to be able to make medical choices for my child.”

The sentence comes as the latest event in an ongoing custody battle with her ex-husband James Horne who wants their son vaccinated.

Judge Karen McDonald granted Horne temporary custody to have him vaccinated.
