Abused Puppy is Looking for A New Home

A 3-month old Maltese puppy, who was abused by his previous owner, is now available for adoption.

Rory was thrown against the wall of a home, leaving one of his legs broken.

Animal control officers say the previous owner threw Rory as a punishment for having an accident.

County Animal Services Director Dan DeSousa says when the owner pushed his face into the mess the puppy bit him and then threw Rory.

"Any pet can have an accident in the home, but pushing the animal’s face into it, much less throwing a puppy against a wall is a totally unacceptable response.”

Investigators are submitting a criminal case against him for one count of felony animal cruelty and if convicted, the suspect could face up to a year in prison, a $20,000 fine, or both.

County Animal Service officials say Rory needs physical therapy and strict exercise restrictions for at least the next six weeks and after six weeks, he will need X-rays to determine if further treatment is necessary.

If you'd like to adopt Rory, you can submit a special adoption application to County Animal Services; they will accept applications until Wednesday, August 9th.

County Animal Services will select the top three candidates and they'll be invited to meet Rory.
