In an effort to cut-down on animals in shelters there is a new proposal that would enable the public to keep an animal if they find it.
With the issue of overcrowding in shelters this would give people the ability to foster the animal for 30 days instead of turning it in to the shelter. They would inform the shelter and possibly provide a picture in case the original owners came to look for the animal.
There are people on both sides of the proposal. Some argue that this new rule would not provide original owners with enough of an opportunity to find their pet. The other side points out that people who find and report animals missing are animal lovers to begin with and would take better care of the pet than the shelter.
This proposal could help Los Angeles County reach their goal of becoming a no-kill city.
