Coast Guard officials say they're responding to reports to a possible downed aircraft in the Redondo Beach Harbor.

Watchstanders of the Coast Guard's Los Angeles-Long Beach sector say they received an "emergency notification for assistance" around 11:45 am this morning. The notifications came from "an aircraft's emergency location transmitter beacon," officials relayed through a press release.

Witnesses told ABC7 that they saw an oil slick on the surface of the water in the Redondo Beach Harbor entrance.

A helicopter and boat search and rescue crew was dispatched, along with the Los Angeles County Fire Department who is assisting with the response.

Anyone with information about the possible aircraft in distress is being asked to contact the Coast Guard at (310) 521-3805.
