Monrovia police release sketch of suspect in the murder of teen

An 18-year-old from Monrovia was shot in what officers believe may have been a case of mistaken identity and they're asking for the public's help.

Police released a sketch of the suspect they believe shot and killed Oscar Garcia, a senior at Canyon Oaks High School in Monrovia as his mother asked for the public's help to find her son's killer.

Garcia and a friend were visiting a female friend at her home hanging out in the garage when a man appeared in the garage door and pointed a handgun at them. Some words were reportedly exchanged and then the man opened fire.

The suspect fled the scene after fatally wounding Garcia, and injuring his friend. Their female friend was unhurt.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned male, around 20-25 years old, with a medium build, brown eyes, short black hair, goatee, and was wearing a black baseball cap with an unknown logo.

Anyone with any information is being asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
