"NO BOSTON OLYMPICS: How and Why Smart Cities Are Passing on the Torch”

Mayor Yoga Pants Garcetti really wants Los Angeles to host the 2024 Olympics. All he cares about is making himself look good. Does he care about fixing streets, or being fair to the taxpayer? Nope.

Boston was designated by the United States Olympic Committee in January 2015 to host the 2024 summer games, but the city fought back and rejected it.

Chris Dempsey and Andrew Zimbalist were right in the middle of it all, and they've written a new book called NO BOSTON OLYMPICS: How and Why Smart Cities Are Passing on the Torch:

"Everything you always wanted to know about how to decline an invitation to be an Olympic host city….

The IOC has never had to change its business methods, but that is about to change. Especially after the city of Boston rejected inertia and fought its nomination to host the 2024 Summer Olympics. This David vs. Goliath narrative is a story of sports, politics in a political vacuum, urban planning, power brokers, star athletes, ambition, coercion, charged debates, scrappy underdogs and competing visions of the “defining moment” for a city they all loved. “NO BOSTON OLYMPICS: How and Why Smart Cities Are Passing on the Torch”, by Chris Dempsey and Andrew Zimbalist (ForeEdge, May 2, 2017) is an enlightening chronicle of why and how the citizens of Boston—lead by an eponymous opposition group and other allied organizations—rejected the Games and changed the course of Boston’s history."
